12:00 PM - 1:30 PM Tutor Training & CRLA Certification: Developing A Training Program For Certified, Advanced & Master
This webinar will assist tutor trainers and learning center administrators in updating and improving their training by aligning their training with the International Tutor Training Certification Program (ITTPC) of the College, Reading, and Learning Association (CRLA). The presentation will feature the training program developed over twenty years for certified, advanced, and master tutors. The Academic Assistance and Resource Center (AARC) of Stephen F. Austin State University has certified and recertified with CRLA since 2000. Our approach has evolved over the years to a very intentionally-crafted training plan per semester. While newbie tutors are required to certify at level 1, tutors may opt-in for advanced training. As our training improved at advanced levels, so did participation. The quality of training has everything to do with improved learning outcomes. The tutor is more likely to gain real-world marketable skills such as leadership and interpersonal communication. The student is more likely to achieve improved cognition, as evidenced in better grades in the course for which they are tutored. The student will have developed practical learning skills, such as a positive mindset, confidence in success, and the ability to self-regulate. Anytime we reflect on our training as framed by the standards presented by the certification process ---our work remains dynamic, and our outcomes increase. Embrace the opportunity to put your work under the microscope.
